FAQ
The questions we get most.
Only the questions we've actually been asked more than twice — no padding, no search-engine bait. Can't find what you're looking for? Write to us.
About the bottles
Where is your saffron from?
A family co-operative in Torbat Heydarieh, Khorasan province, Iran. We've been buying from them since the first batch in 2022 and visit twice a year. Iran grows around 90% of the world's saffron, and the Khorasan region in particular has the soil and climate that produces the threads we want.
Is the Saffron Gin actually saffron-led, or just saffron-coloured?
Saffron-led. We cold-macerate 2.4 grams of saffron threads per litre of spirit for forty-eight hours before distillation — the saffron does the work, not just the garnish. You can read the long version in the journal.
Is the Shiraz made in Iran or in the Netherlands?
The grapes are grown south of Maastricht, on a slope above the Geul valley. The wine is bottled in Amsterdam. The name "Shiraz" is the grape (which is genetically identical to Syrah and may or may not have any historical connection to the Persian city of Shiraz — we kept the double-reading on purpose).
Are the bottles vegan?
Yes for the spirits and the beers — no animal-derived fining agents at any stage. The Shiraz Red is also vegan (we use bentonite, a clay, for fining). The rosé we're developing for 2027 may or may not be — we'll know after the trial batches.
Ordering and delivery
How long does shipping take?
Next working day inside the Netherlands; one to five working days elsewhere. Full per-country rates and times on the shipping page.
Do you ship outside the EU and UK?
Not directly. Customs, duties, and parcel-level alcohol regulations vary too much outside of those markets for us to ship single bottles economically. If you'd like a case sent further afield, write to us and we'll quote a custom rate or point you to a local stockist.
Will my parcel show "alcohol" on the outside?
No. The outer box is unbranded and unlabelled — it just looks like a generic cardboard parcel. The required age-verification sticker is small and on the address label, not the side of the box.
Can I pick up an order from your cellar?
Yes, by appointment. We open the cellar on the first Friday of every month, 16:00 to 19:00 — message us a day or two ahead and we'll have your order ready. The address is in Amsterdam-Noord; we send the exact location with the pickup confirmation.
The brand and the club
What does the Cyrus Club actually include?
Three or six bottles every three months, picked by the cellar. Each shipment includes at least one member-only release that doesn't appear in the public shop. A full breakdown — tiers, perks, skip and pause — is on the club page.
Do you do private events or tastings?
Yes. We run a small number of guided tastings each month at the cellar (€45 per person, four to twelve people), and travel for private events on request. Email info@cyrusdrinks.com with a date and a rough idea of the group size.
Are you taking on stockists or Horeca accounts?
Cautiously. New stockist applications are reviewed quarterly; Horeca accounts (bars, restaurants, hotels) are reviewed monthly. Apply via the business portal.
What's with the 1% to Tarlan?
1% of every order goes to Tarlan, an Amsterdam non-profit that resettles Iranian artists, journalists, and human-rights advocates fleeing political reprisal. A brand that takes its name from a Persian emperor has an obligation to give something back to the contemporary Persian diaspora. We don't put this on the bottle.
